Therapeutic and Advanced Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) has seen dramatic changes within the last two decades. It went from being a diagnostic technique to a unique therapeutic and imaging platform. Alongside the expending indications of ERCP, major progress in instrumentations, devices, and tools has been made. New concepts have been generated regarding treating but most importantly preventing complications of ERCP, while advanced imaging technologies have taken the diagnostic possibilities to another level. The addition of novel stents, ablation therapy, and endoscopic ultrasound-guided ERCP has completely changed the field for years to come, while the medico-legal implications have added a whole new dimension by emphasizing indications and expertise.
