Endoscope once for any symptom at any age?

We read with interest the editorial by Andriulli et al,1 entitled "Appropriateness or prioritization for GI endoscopic procedures." The investigators suggest that any abdominal symptom should be investigated once by endoscopy and that all endoscopic procedures are appropriate in patients who are investigated for the first time, regardless of the reason, whether for symptoms or for screening, and that more rigid criteria should be reserved only for surveillance endoscopy.
