Upon opening the April 2007 issue of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, an article by Kochman and Swain, entitled "Deconstruction of the endoscope" instantly caught my eye. Frustrated by the awkward, antiquated design of the endoscope, I eagerly read on hoping to find my wish list for the endoscope of my dreams. But alas, there were several items missing. The deficiencies in the current endoscope design that Swain and Kochman fail to address are presented herein as my own wish list. Although I offer some solutions, 1 leave the rest to my inventive colleagues-and Industry.
