Short double-balloon enteroscope for previously failed colonoscopy.

We read with interest the article by Teshima et al on 23 single-balloon colonoscopies in 22 patients with previously failed conventional colonoscopies. Cecal intubation was successful in 22 of the 23 colonoscopies, with 7 therapeutic interventions. The outcomes with single-balloon colonoscopy are similar to those with double-balloon colonoscopy. Because the single-balloon and double-balloon enteroscopes (DBEs) have 200-cm working lengths, both procedures with accessories are rela-tively difficult to handle. We think that the use of a short double-balloon enteroscope (sDBE) "would solve the problem.
