A new technique for endoscopic removal of uncovered biliary self-expandable metal stents: Stent-in-stent technique with a fully covered biliary stent

Self-expandable metal stents (SEMSs) are used to palliate unresectable malignant biliary obstruction. Uncovered SEMSs, once deployed, are usually not retrievable by en-doscopic means. We describe the first reported case of endoscopic removal of an uncovered SEMS using a stent-in-stent technique with a fully covered SEMS.A 69-year-old man with jaundice and presumed unresectable pancreatic cancer underwent placement of an uncovered SEMS (Wallstent; Boston Scientific, Natick, Mass).
