Oil and gas presence in Jurassic plays and pre-Jurassic prospects in Ob-Tazov Bay and western Yamal offshore

Today, northern West Siberia including Nadym-Pur-Tazov province, Yamal and Gydan peninsulas are producing over 80% of gas in Russia. The bulk of natural gas presently comes from high-capacity Aptian/ Cenomanian and Neocomian reservoirs which are expected to be largely depleted over the next 15-20 years. After 2020, new mostly marginal and complex-geology fields have to be placed on stream. Therefore, geological and geophysical studies of pre-Jurassic and Jurassic plays (including interstitial Paleozoic series and crystalline basement rocks in Ob-Tazov Bay and western Yamal offshore acreage in the Kara Sea), at 3,500 m depth mark or deeper, appear to be a pressing need.
