Adenomas of the papilla vateri are rare (0.04%-0.12%) but bear a risk of up to 30% for malignant transformation. Surgical treatment by pancreaticoduodenectomy has considerable morbidity and mortality, whereas transduodenal local resection and endoscopic papillectomy are associated "with recurrence rates of up to 30%.Endoscopic papillectomy and snare resection with or without thermal ablation for diagnosis and treatment of papillary adenoma are less traumatic treatment options with lower complication rates.
