Mitsubishi Wins CO2-Capture/Recovery Deal for QAFAC Methanol Plant

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) announced March 15 thatit won an order for a carbon-dioxide (CO2) recovery plant fora Qatar Fuel Additives Co. (QAFAC) methanol plant projectnear Doha, Qatar.“The CO2, which is to be recovered at up to 500 tons perday – one of the world’s largest CO2 capture capacities – willbe used to increase production of methanol,” according to MHIThe deal marks “the first overseas order for an MHI CO2-recovery plant specifically targeted at raising methanol pro-duction. Construction of the plant is slated for completion inOctober 2014,” according to the companyThe scheme will “capture CO2 from combustion exhaustgas emitted in the methanol production process,” accordingto MHI. “The CO2 separated and recovered from the flue gasusing MHI’s proprietary ‘KS-1’ solvent will be provided asfeedstock for boosting methanol production.”
