What is behind the firm's "Golden Rule ?" Stoe: When John H. McConnell, founder and chairman emeritus, created this company 50 years ago, he made it clear that he wanted us to conduct ourselves ethically in all our dealings with our suppliers, customers, and employees - in other words, treat them like we would want to be treated. That golden rule formed the basis of all our business activities and helped build our solid reputation in the marketplace. What are the biggest issues facing distributors today? Stoe: There has been a tremendous amount of consolidation over the last several years, and distributors must now sort through the aftermath. They must determine which suppliers to work with and establish long-term relationships with them. Another issue they face is expanding into growing markets like healthcare. That means new liability and cost concerns they haven't dealt with in the past.
