Leucadia’s Lake Charles Methanol/CCS Project EIS Open for Public Comment

Leucadia Corp.’s Lake Charles Clean Energy (LCCE) project – involving petcoke gasification, methanol production and carbon dioxide (CO2) capture and storage (CCS) – is now open for public comment for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) draft environmental impact statement (EIS). The estimated US$2.5-billion project earlier won crucial air and water permits, $1.56 billion worth of Gulf Opportunity Zone and Hurricane Ike tax-exempt bonds from the Louisiana State Bond Commission, a $261-million DOE grant for the CCS portion of the project and a $128-million U.S. federal investment tax credit.
