Coal India Ltd. Board OKs For Gasification-Based Fertilizer Project

The board of directors of Coal India Ltd. (CIL) on February 28 voted to approve an Rs8,000 crore (US$1.3 billion) project that would restore fertilizer production at a closed urea plant at Talcher, Odisha. According to a report from Press Trust of India, the consortium of Rashtriya Chemicals Fertilizers (RCF), Gas Authority of India Ltd. (GAIL), CIL and Fertilizer Corporation of India Ltd. (FCIL) will relaunch urea production at a plant that was closed in 2002. New production capacity would be 1.2 million tonnes per annum, when commissioned in 2017.
