Sweden-based Alfa Laval announced December 20 that it won a SEK 80 million [US$11.7 million] order for heat exchangers for what it describes as the "world's first" full scale precombustion carbon-capture project at a coal-fired power plant. While Alfa Laval declined to disclose its customer for the deal, Mississippi Power Co. (MPC) separately revealed to Gasification News that the heat-exchanger deal is in fact for MPC's US$2.4 billion, 582-megaWatt Kemper County integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) plant, due for start-up in 2014. MPC broke ground on construction of the plant last month.
