Even after a difficult financial period, Thermadyne Holdings Corp., headquartered in St. Louis, remains as major contender in the welding and cutting industry. The firm racks up 500 million dollars in annual sales and operates subsidiaries, warehouses, and sales offices in over 25 countries along with manufacturing operations all across the globe. Recently Paul D. Melnuk, chairman and chief executive officer, spoke with GWD to share his views on the firm's new direction. GWD: Tbermadyne has undergone considerable change in recent months. What message would you like to convey to distributors about that? Meln.uk: For nearly two decades, Thermadyne has been governed by financial engineers trying to make a quick buck, and our company faced a lot of challenges as a result. Today, Thermadyne is fundamentally different. We are governed by an independent board of directors committed to growing the business by thoroughly understanding our customer's expectations and then meeting or exceeding them. Thermadyne is now in a strong financial position. We are adding plant and human resources and are looking to build the company for the long term. We are becoming an externally oriented, customer-focused organization.
