Representatives of the chemical, industrial, and fuel gases industries honored Edward W. Pritchard with the 2004 Industry Safety Achievement Award. Pritchard, who is director of the Office of Safety Assurance and Compliance, Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), U.S. Department of Transportation, picked up the award at a recent ceremony held in Washington. Deputy Administrator Betty Monro and Mark Yachmetz of the FRA as well as Frits Wybenga of DOT/RSPA, the 2003 award recipient, were also on hand for the presentation. Alan I. Roberts, president of the Dangerous Goods Advisory Council (DGAC), nominated Pritchard for the award, saying, "Ed Pritchard has devoted more than 30 years to hazardous-materials-transportation safety. He is well-recognized for his dedication and pragmatic approach to identifying safety problems that require regulatory solutions, and just as important, working "with industry on a cooperative basis."
