A Tribute to Dr. Takeo Shimizu, Pyrotechnician Extraordinaire

The announcement of the death of Dr. Takeo Shimizu on 14 February 2011 was communicated rapidly throughout the international fireworks community and received with profound sadness. He was a dedicated and gifted researcher and prolific author, who was able to report his observations, findings, and insights in multiple languages for the benefit of the entire international fireworks industry. His many outstanding scientific and engineering contributions to fireworks technology have been detailed recently in memorials in national and international publications. On behalf of the officers and directors of the International Symposium on Fireworks Society (ISFS), I would like to pay special tribute to him as a strong supporter of the International Symposia on Fireworks.
