German pharmacies deplore court decision on mail order medicines for drugstores

The defendant, Petra Schaefer, Director General of the dm drugstore chain, accepted in her stores orders for pharmaceuticals - requiring prescriptions where necessary - and sent these to the Netherlands-based Europa Apotheek Venlo, a mail order pharmacy. The pharmacy sent the medicines back to one of the chain's drugstores in a sealed envelope with the name and address of the customer on it. However, the City of Duesseldorf authorities refused to allow the defendant to sell in her drugstores medicines that were legally bound for sale in pharmacies.
