Ammunition and Explosives Regulation in the Department of National Defence and Canadian Armed Forces

This article provides a brief introduction into the governance framework for Ammunition and Explosives (A&E) in the Department of National Defence (DND) and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). In Canada, explosives are regulated by the Explosives Act1 and its associated Regulations2. The Regulations are administered by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) with the NRCan Chief Inspector of Explosives being the national regulator. Ammunition is regarded as an explosive under the Explosives Act.
