Comments on 'Electricity and fishing--a dangerous mix'.

Dear editor,The original article [1] of our colleagues from Cluj reminded us of two of our cases with electrical injuries related with fishing. Fishing with carbon fiber or graphite rods and high-voltage cables neighbourhood might be a risky "business" indeed.Our first case to report, from 2001, was a 36 year old woman who, went fishing with her husband. They both used carbon fiber rods and chose a place to fish directly under high voltage cables. The distance between the cables and the fisher-woman was 7 m. The woman sustained a severe electrical injury: electrocution with cardiac and respiratory arrest and electrical burns covering 35% of her total body surface area. The burns affected the cephalic extremity, partially the upper limbs, partially the trunk, partially the lower limbs. The depth of the burns was IIb, III and IV (Demling classification) [2]. The patient underwent amputations of fingers and toes and excisions of the eschars followed by split thickness skin grafts. During her stay in the unit she lost about 20 kg of her body weight. She totally recovered at about 18 months after injury, although she needed subsequent revisions of the scars. The husband sustained no injury.
