Two-thirds of US corporations avoided federal income taxes over the period 1998-2005

Two out of three American corporations paid no federal income tax for the seven years through 2005, according to the Government Accountability Office. A GAO report released 12~(th) August also said that some 68 percent of foreign companies doing business in the US avoided corporate taxes over the same period. According to the GAO estimate, taken together the two sets of companies reported trillions of dollars in sales.
