Onkyo out on its own: Hi-fi and AV brand Onkyo has just set up its own UK operation

Hi-fi and AV brand Onkyo recently parted company with its UK distributor, Jamo, and set up its own UK subsidiary. In reviewing the strategy for both brands, Jamo in Denmark and Onkyo in Japan collectively decided that the best way forward was for an independent company to take over the UK distribution of Onkyo. Consequently, the UK operation is now headed by general manager, Kengo Iwasaki, and market manager, Gary Thompson. "We are desperate to bring new technology to market," says Mr Thompson, explaining why it was necessary to create a new Onkyo UK business. "In order to do that, we need 100 percent focus. The story we want to tell will need a lot of explaining and that is why we have decided to enter UK market directly."
