Disc drive: DVD and solid-state products have revolutionised the camcorder market

The camcorder market has seen plenty of innovation over the last few years, particularly with the advent of DVD and solid state-based products. The market share for DVD cameras is still relatively small, but the manufacturers who are backing the format - Sony, Panasonic and Hitachi - are confident they can expand the sector this year "DVD cameras will be big news for us in 2004 and we will be concentrating a lot of our efforts on this area," says Shaun Dorrington, group product manager at Sony. "Launched in November 2003, our DVD camcorder range has lived-up to our expectations." This month, Sony has added three new models to its line-up, while Panasonic and Hitachi have each debuted two new products.
