On the identity of Arctosa variana C. L. Koch and Arctosa similis Schenkel, with notes on related species (Araneae: Lycosidae)

After reconsideration of the four species of the Arctosa cinerea group in Europe the following new interpretations and two new synonymys can be given: A. perita latithorax Lugetti & Tongiorgi, 1965 =A. variana C. L. Koch, 1847 (new synonymy); A. variana in sense of recent authors (Kniille, 1959; Lugetti & Tongiorgi, 1965) -A. similis Schenkel, 1938, which is removed from synonymy with A. cinerea (Fabricius, 1777); A. cinerea minor Guy, 1966 -A. similis Schenkel (new synonymy). These species, together with A. cinerea and A. perita (Latreille, 1799), are briefly discussed and keyed and characters of taxonomic importance illustrated.
