Forrester moves to PBR

Andrew Barclay 0-4-OST Forrester (AB 1260/1911) was removed from a display location at Blaenavon Wharf, Newport, on November 11, and taken to the Pontypool Blaenavon Railway. The loco had been delivered new to the Newport Tinplate Co Ltd at Abercarn and registered as GWR No. 68 to enable it to work over the Hall's Road branch. Withdrawn in 1970, it initially went to Ebbw Vale tinplate works for storage (the Abercarn works by then part of British Steel), and in 1974 was moved to the Caerphilly Railway Society at Caerphilly. It returned to Newport in 1994, being put on display at Blaenavon Wharf in 1995 with a goods wagon. Vandalism and deterioration of the wagon resulted in Newport City Council deciding to donate the loco to the PBR.
