摘要

New knowledge on inheritance, environment and biological networks shapes a rational platform for next-generation diagnostics. Based on recent genomic data, I propose a new concept suggesting that chronic multifactorial diseases, such as cancer, arise from accumulation of genetic and epigenetic alterations and a dynamic functional deregulation of an individual's genome-lifestyle interactions network. Therefore, genomic medicine and systems science represent robust research means to both understand complex pathobiology and improve health. In the future, could innovative systems science-based personalized diagnostic tools predict healthy longevity, intellectual cognitive processes and intelligence, as well as multifactorial diseases including cancer, diabetes, schizophrenia and other incurable disorders?
