EMERGENCY NURSES and doctors in the UK do a remarkable job dealing with increasing numbers of older and sicker patients. Cuts to social care funding, and a crumbling primary care infrastructure in which patients perceive the emergency department (ED) as their only access to same-day health care, continue to put pressure on our hospitals.
