Compulsory cycle helmets

AS WELL as being an emergency nurse practitioner, I am a triathlon coach and senior technical official. The wearing of helmets is mandatory in organised training and racing in triathlons, and their use in individual training has become accepted widely.Occasionally, I instruct athletes on how to fit helmets and I should like to point out that, in the April issue of Emergency Nurse, the helmet worn by the child pictured in the news article on cycle helmet legislation is fitted incorrectly. Helmets protect only what they cover and the one in the picture appears to cover too little of the boy's forehead. It should be positioned slightly above his eyebrows.
