It is estimated that the built environment accounts for around 40 per cent of the world's total man made carbon emissions and with the rate our cities are expanding, this figure is surely set to rise. Long gone are the days where environmental impact was a side note on an organisation's 'must try harder' list, where areas of waste were shrugged off as inescapable and sustainability initiatives laughed out of the boardroom. A building's environmental footprint is now a big issue, both in terms of an organisation's green credentials and its profitability.
