BASF triples income in first quarter but says recovery 'still shaky'

GERMANY BASF reported a three-fold rise in net income for the first three months of the year and said its industry businesses were almost back to pre-crises levels of performance. Renewed demand, particularly from automotive, electric and electronic industries helped push net income to over euro 1 billion as sales rose 26% from euro 12.2 million in the year ago quarter to euro 15.5 million this time.
