Several North Sea and offshore Ireland blocks are coming under the auctioneer's hammer as operators bid to tie up partners prior to drilling. In the UK Central North Sea, Esso Exploration and Production is offering the opportunity for interested parties to acquire its equity in Blocks 23/16b Upper and 23/16b Upper (Barbara extension), which contain the Phyllis and Barbara fields. Esso's working equity in Block 23/16b Upper is 66.7% and in Block 23/16b Upper (Barbara extension) is 40%. The two fields are gas/condensate bearing and are covered by a 3D seismic survey and have had appraisal wells drilled on them. Total estimated gas-in-place for both fields ranges from 6.2-11.3 Bern (221-403 Bcf).
