In what will be a massive boost to the floundering UK North Sea exploration scene, Norway's Statoil is gearing up to drill two exploration wells offshore the UK in Q2 2015 -one in the Catcher area and one west of the Mariner heavy oil field. The two wells could offer up a stand-alone development and a boost to the Mariner field in one swoop from Statoil, making them high potential probes for the UK sector. To drill the wells Statoil is moving the Songa Trym semi-submersible rig from the Norwegian sector. The first well is possible as early as late April.
