Norway has experienced high exploration activity so far this year - with eight new discoveries made in the first six months - but overall discovery rates are below average despite some "interesting wells", said the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD). As of 28 June, 28 exploration wells have been spudded on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS). Of these, 19 were wildcat wells and nine were appraisal wells. Eight discoveries were made: six in the North Sea and two in the Norwegian Sea, said the NPD.
