The effects of various bonding systems on mechanical properties of oil palm fibre reinforced rubber composites have been studied. The mechanical properties of oil palm fibre reinforced rubber composites filled with various types of bonding system are higher compared to similar composite but without bonding system (control compound). However, the tensile strength, tensile modulus, elongation at break, tear strength and hardness are dependent on the bonding systems used. SEM studies show that the bonding between the fibre and rubber matrix is improved with the addition of bonding agents in the rubber composites. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
