Activist hedge funds Jana Partners and Trian Fund Management have privately joined in criticism of the planned spin-offs from DowDuPont, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. The report comes after Dow executives mounted a defense of the company’s back-integrated structure in an earnings call last week. The materials science spin-off from DowDuPont – which will be called Dow Chemical, and will consist largely of legacy Dow assets – came under fire from activist hedge funds Third Point and Glenview Capital earlier this year.
