Efficiency boost for older IM machines

INJECTION MOULDING Engel, the Austria-based maker of injection moulding machines (IMMs), has introduced a retrofit system that it claims can reduce the energy required by existing hydraulic IMMs by up to 50%. EcodriveR allows hydraulic IMMs with an asynchronous motor and electric-hydraulic variable capacity pumps to be controlled according to demand, as in Engel's own servo-hydraulic IMM, the Ecodrive, which it released in 2008.
