GKV, the association of German plastics processors, joined forces in January with seven other industry trade associations to criticise electricity surcharges designed to support development of electricity generation from renewable resources. The organisations, representing 10,000 companies, issued a joint statement describing the electricity surcharges as "an excessive cost burden" on Germany as a location for industrial production. Small and medium sized companies are becoming less competitive and many have consequently postponed investment or have decided to invest abroad, the alliance warned.
