Environment tops US car makers' agenda

Environmental issues top the list of challenges facing US car makers, pushing cost reduction into second place for the first time in 14 years, according to the latest sector survey by DuPont and the Society of Automotive Engineers. A basket of environmental factors including fuel economy, emissions and clean air regulations were cited as the top challenges by 53% of the designers and engineers surveyed, compared to just 32% who put cost as the priority.
