Additive helps join together clear plastics

Gentex has granted the performance chemicals unit of BASF a worldwide licence to use and sell Lumogen near-IR-absorb-ing additives to produce plastic resins for moulding laser-weld-able components.Resins containing the BASF additives provide users access to Gentex's patented Clearweld process for laser welding plastics,says Gentex.The Clearweld process employs speciality coatings and resins to provide colour and design flexibility in laser welding clear and opaque plastics.
