Automotive experts debate carbon fibre's future

Carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) for lightweight design was addressed at a press briefing at the VDI plastics in automotive conference in Mannheim, Germany, last month. Dr Hubert Jager, technology and innovation head at SGL Group, said he is convinced the future lies mostly with hybrid CFRP and aluminium design. Giinter Deinzer, technology and fibre reinforced plastic composites manager at Audi, said that CFRP is a logical development in Audi's multi-material lightweight design strategy in terms of economy and ecology potential.
