Producers grant price concessions as costs soften

In March, European standard thermoplastic price movements continued to match raw material costs with all product sectors remaining in good balance. The March ethylene contract price dropped ?20/tonne to ?l,180/tonne as producers continued to pump out large volumes. The propylene contract price was rolled over from February at ?1,130/ tonne. The styrene monomer (SM) contract price plunged by ?57/tonne to ?l,370/tonne as a result of a hefty reduction in the cost of benzene and ethylene. Paraxylene and monoeth-ylene glycol, the two main PET feedstock costs, had not been settled by mid-March but market insiders expected a reduction in the PET cost base of between ?25-30/ tonne.
