Germany-based radiation treatment company Beta-Gamma-Service (BGS) is applying a process developed for crosslinking injection mouldings in thermoplastics to treat fibre reinforced composites. The company had previously shown the possibility of boosting heat resistance, mechanical properties, chemical resistance, flame retardancy and even tri-bology (wear and friction) through crosslinking of injection mouldings in thermoplastics such as polyamide and PBT, as weE as thermoplastic elastomers. The process has also been used to convert flexible polyurethane foam into rigid foam.
