Landfill cover project pairs with solar panels to produce power

Through the innovative design of the first solar energy cover installed over an exposed geomembrane cover, one landfill is producing enough electricity to power 5,500 homes and generate a sizable revenue stream of renewable energy at the same time. Key to the successful system is a unique capping method that incorporates a 476,000-square-foot thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) geomembrane.
