For women undergoing surgery to treat stress urinary incontinence (SUI), a "long-term" surgical outcome would probably mean decades, yet in surgical research, we have few high-quality, randomized studies that report outcomes at a mere 5 yr. This knowledge gap affects our ability as surgeons to have an evidence-based practice based on consistent research findings that guide our recommendations and patient counseling.
