PCA3Plus~(TM) is being marketed by Bostwick Laboratories as a marker of prostate cancer, with greater specificity than serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA). mRNA is isolated from purified prostate epithelial cells obtained from urine after prostate massage. Subsequently, reverse trahscription-poly-merase chain reaction (RT-PCR) is performed for DD3(PCA3). Detection of DD3(PCA3) RNA is sensitive with a result of >10 (arbitrary units) giving a sensitivity of 95.7%. This compares favourably with measurement of serum PSA alone.
