摘要

The intensive search for an effective and safe surgical alternative to conventional transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is driven by (1) the well-known side effects and complications of TURP, (2) the need to shorten the hospital stay for economic reasons, (3) the fulfilment of the patient's wish for a shorter hospital stay and avoidance of complications of TURP, and (4) the changing patient profile as the percentage of elderly, polymorbid patients under anticoagulation is constantly increasing.
