The robotic revolution in urology continues with great momentum, and this is reflected in the significant numbers of robot-assisted radical prostatectomies (RARPs) performed worldwide. The etymology of the word robot stems from the Czech word for work or labour, robota, and in a technical and practical sense, things have advanced exponentially since the first "robot" was designed and constructed by Leonardo da Vinci around 1495. The telepresence (the sensation of being in one location while being in another) robotic master-slave manipulators of the 1950 s have evolved into the robotic surgical consoles we see today, namely, the da Vinci surgical system, designed and marketed by Intuitive Surgical (Sunnyvale, CA, USA).
