摘要

The association of hypogonadism with diabetes, metabolic syndrome, carotid intima-media thickness, and aortic disease prompted this study to determine if older men with testosterone (T) deficiency are also at risk for major vascular events. A large cohort (n = 3443 men) was assessed with the Carlson index, a validated method that includes conditions predictable of mortality ranging from cardiovascular and urologic malignancies to other associations: age, body mass index, smoking, and use of aspirin/clopidogrel. Participants underwent an extensive laboratory assessment focused on hormonal and lipid parameters. They were stratified by T quartiles and followed up for >4 yr.
