Salvage radical prostatectomy in 2011: an established therapeutic option?

In this issue of European Urology, the largest multicenter series on patients (n = 404) treated with salvage radical prostatectomy (SRP) is presented by Chade and coworkers [ 1 ]. This paper gives us a clearer view of the role of SRP due to the sample size and the meaningful end points such as metastasis-free and overall survival. Even though biochemical recurrence (BCR)-free survival was the primary end point in this study, nobody doubts that the secondary end points, such as metastasis and cancer-specific survival, are more relevant.
