摘要

Patients with significant vaginal prolapse and stress urinary incontinence (SUI) typically undergo an anti-incontinence procedure at the time of prolapse repair to prevent postoperative SUI. This review article addresses the problem of management of patients who are continent at the time of prolapse repair and reviews the existing literature on the topic of occult SUI. The authors conclude that there is (1) currently no standardized terminology or accurate testing for occult SUI, (2) a paucity of controlled studies proving that occult SUI leads to postoperative SUI, and (3) currently inadequate evidence to accurately counsel continent patients whether to undergo anti-incontinence intervention at the time of prolapse repair.
