The small hamlet of Slapton nestles behind the shingle bar that runs from Torcross to Street, just south of Dartmouth in south Devon. This idyllic (on a good day) sweep of coastline famously and ironically known as Slapton sands is the site of a longestablished Field Studies Council centre. This had been the venue for a number of spider courses in the 60s and 70s, so it was with a sense of nostalgia that the company arrived with expectations of the sun-drenched Riviera weekend to come.
