Skills shortages are a very serious problem that could well have a substantial effect on the viability of the general rubber goods (GRG) sector in the medium-to-long term unless the issue is properly addressed. Companies have managed to muddle along until more recently, relying on the residual pool of generally older technologists. Many of these have however now retired, leaving a substantial skills gap, especially when, as now, the sector is reviving.
